Today, in the Education Centre for Nature Conservation in Negrevo, representatives of the municipality of Berovo, the municipality of Pehcevo and PE National Forests signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for the implementation of the pilot Regional plan for forest management in the Malesevo region, with Action Plan 2020-2025.
This memorandum defines the cooperation between the three parties for implementation of the measures envisaged in the RP for the Malesevo region.
The Regional Forest Management Plan in the Malesevo region, with Action Plan 2020-2025, is the first regional plan developed for a specific micro region in our country, with participation of all key stakeholders and taking into account the different functions of forests. This Regional Forest Management Plan was developed as part of the Nature Conservation Programme in North Macedonia (NCP), project by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), coordinated by Farmahem, and it was adopted as a strategic document on forests in the municipalities of Berovo and Pehcevo.
RGMP in the Malesevo region, with Action Plan 2020-2025 is a development strategic plan that would help lay the foundations for sustainable management of forests and forest land in the region. This plan for the Malesevo region is a guideline that sets the course for sustainable management of forests and forest areas in the region, based on the three pillars of sustainable forest management, i.e. economic values of forests, biodiversity (nature conservation) and socio-economic values.
The signatories of the Memorandum of Cooperation took the opportunity to underline that the development of such a comprehensive plan for forest management will contribute to the main goal of supporting the local population in their sustainable development, using forest values in a sustainable manner, and at the same time comply with the general trends in forestry in Europe, which include spatial planning and landscape management in line with pan-European criteria and indicators.
The Regional Forest Management Plan in the Malesevo region (Berovo and Pehcevo), with Action Plan 2020-2025, was adopted as a strategic plan at the 33rd session of the Berovo municipal council held on 13 May 2020, as well as by the Pehcevo municipal council at its 29th session held on 5 May 2020.
